Even the highest salary in global football may not be enough to keep star-striker Samuel Eto’o at Anzhi Makhachkala.
According to Italy’s Corriere dello Sport newspaper, Eto’o plans to ask the Dagestan club’s bosses to let him return to his former team, Inter Milan, this summer or at the end of the year.
The Cameroonian is reported to be dis-satisfied with the quality of life in Russia and the level of the local football league.
The 31-year-old blames the poor quality of the pitches for not being able to score a single goal in seven games after the Russian Premier League returned from winter break.
Meanwhile, Inter’s president Massimo Moratti, stressed that Eto’o is always welcome back at his team.
In June last year, the Milanese side sold the Cameroonian’s to Anzhi for €21 million.
Eto’o agreed on the move after he was offered a record salary of €20 million per year by the Russian club.
The Cameroonian made his name as one of the best forwards, playing for such clubs as Barcelona and Inter.
Eto’o has so far scored 351 goals in club football, with eight of them coming in the Anzhi jersey.
During his career, he won the Spanish La Liga three times, the Italian Championships and four Champions League titles.
The four-times African player of the Year also has 109 caps and 53 goals for Cameroon, with whom he claimed the African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002.
